MTC Talk on Cross-cutting Issues: Access to Financing for SMEs in the Timber and Furniture Industry
Menara PGRM, Kuala Lumpur

As part of Malaysian Timber Council’s (MTC) continuing effort to assist the development of the Malaysian timber industry in particular the SMEs, we would like to cordially invite your associations and members to a Talk by Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad (CGC) and OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad.

The global economy improved considerably since early 2017 where advanced economies grew with the support from accommodative monetary policies and slightly expansionary fiscal policies. Similarly, the growth in emerging market since early 2017 led by China recovered on a resilient note with reports of recovery in manufacturing and trade activities. These are just some of the many indicators portraying the global economic recovery in 2017 which coincide with a pickup in global trade activities. Closer to home, Malaysia recorded an expansion of 21.4% in total merchandise export of RM224.7 billion in Q1 2017 compared to the corresponding period of last year. Malaysia’s timber and timber product export grew by 5.4% in the same quarter, making up 2.6% of the country’s total export of merchandise.

In view of the competitive domestic and export market for timber and furniture, companies in Malaysia, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in particular need to prudently manage cash flow and in maintaining financial sustainability to gain a competitive advantage over competitors and in supporting the growth of the company.

CGC will be giving a Talk on “Empowering Malaysian SMEs through Credit Guarantee for SME Loan” that deliberates on its product and service offerings that are advantageous to the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Following the presentation from CGC is a Talk by OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad on “Access to Financing for SMEs” that touches on its loan packages to promote growth in business. These products and services are useful to timber and furniture companies, especially SMEs involved in both domestic and export market, which would give them an added business advantage in the long run.

The Talk will be beneficial for business owners, accountants/finance management staff as well as other executives of the timber and furniture industry.
