Architectural Use of Timber in Malaysia
This book is a detailed guide for architects and builders who would like to use timber for their projects. It is divided into four sections, similar to the sequence that architects employ during the project planning and implementation process.

  • Section A deals with the Schematic Design Phase, where timber is introduced as a building material. Sub-chapters cover topics such as specifying timbers, overall stability in timber structures, durability and preservation and timber’s performance in fire. Then, different types of timber roofs, cladding, doors, flooring and joinery are introduced to the reader.
  • Section B follows the Design Development Phase, where the applications of timber are detailed for roofs, cladding, doors and flooring.
  • Section C is the Contract Documentation Phase, where the salient points for specifying timbers are listed, covering sub-topics such as material specification, strength, preservative treatment and moisture content.
  • Section D deals with the Contract Implementation Phase, where the handling and installation of timber at site is discussed. This covers, among others, species verification, moisture content, workmanship on timber, joints, transportation, storage and installation.
