Diverse Integrated Sdn Bhd took part in the Malaysian Timber Council’s (MTC) Factory Transformation Programme (FTP) last year where it was awarded the SIRIM’s Certificate of Recognition for Lean Management in December 2022.

Diverse Integrated was established on 1 April 2002 as a picture frame manufacturer. In 2019, it diversified its business into manufacturing building materials.

Its Vice-President Y.K. Chong said Diverse Integrated specialises in integrating the latest trends with its thematic frame designs.

“As a frame moulding innovator, we provide consistent quality and workmanship. We are partnering with international distributors and retailers in the framing business,” said Chong.

However, Diverse Integrated saw the need to fine-tune its processes at the production lines.

With businesses all around the world and wanting to maintain its stronghold in its main markets such as the United States, Canada, Australia and in small parts of Europe and Southeast Asia, the management realised that the FTP would bring about the changes they needed.

When asked about the company’s participation in the SIRIM STS Lean Management programme, Chong said: “In a way, our general workers lacked discipline as there were no clear guidelines for them to follow. Workstations were somewhat unkept and even the machinery were dirty and most of all, the tools were always missing.”

But all that became a thing of the past after the factory underwent the FTP programme.

“The transformation that has taken place is almost unbelievable. Workstations and machines are cleaned every single day now. Unnecessary processes have been eliminated and more efficient systems are in place which have boosted our productivity,” said Chong, adding that the FTP was truly a game-changer for Diverse Integrated.

The FTP is a programme by MTC with SIRIM STS Sdn Bhd as the consultant. The training covers Green 5S, Lean Management, Innovation Management and Quality Tools & Techniques with audits conducted by SIRIM.  dx
