Hasro had a humble beginning, starting off in 1978 as an enterprising cottage industry seeking to create unique and quality furniture for a discerning market. The company’s founder and CEO, Dato' Hashim Mohamad, comes from a family with a long-established wood carpentry tradition and has moulded the commercial entity out of his lifelong passion for woodworking and craftsmanship.

Over the years, Hasro Furniture Gallery (M) Sdn Bhd, has made a name for itself in being totally committed to achieving the highest standards of furniture-making.

A combination of the best craftsmanship traditions and modern technologies has helped established Hasro as a respectable producer of almost all kinds of imaginable top quality furniture. Today, Hasro’s products have successfully gained international market appeal and acceptance with demand growing beyond Malaysian shores. Its main overseas markets are countries in North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Says Dato’ Hashim: “The excellent quality of our products has been undeniably treasured by connoisseurs of fine furniture. The signature of excellence is now extended to new product ranges such as woodcrafts, and souvenir, decorative and premium items.”

He adds: “The centre of Hasro’s success is a highly talented designing team comprising skilled, experienced master craftsmen dedicated to perfection in quality. Combined with excellent management, marketing and technical teams in the organisation, we are now operating as a manufacturer of fine furniture, supplier of souvenir, decorative and premium items, wholesaler, retailer and dealer, and as an exporter of classic and children furniture.”

Located at Bukit Rambai Industrial Area in Melaka, Hasro’s factory is equipped with complete lines of furniture production machineries, the operations of which are systematically controlled through adopting ISO 9001:2000 management methodologies.

In addition, the company has achieved effective application of an internationally-acclaimed housekeeping approach known as P&Q (Productivity & Quality) under strict guidance and surveillance by Malaysia’s esteemed National Productivity Council (NPC) as well as other process improvement methodologies such as KAIZEN, 5S, QCC and TQM.

In terms of product range, the furniture produced by Hasro include furniture for educational institutions and hostels, government and corporate offices, public facilities, libraries, schools and kindergartens,  museums, parks, hospitals, hotels and resorts, and homes.

Its home furniture range includes bedroom, living, dining, occasional and casual, nursery, and garden and home office furniture. Its nursery and children furniture include baby cots and cribs, high chairs and changers, table sets and bedroom sets, all of which are produced in compliance with international safety standards such as BSI, EN, ASTM, CPSC and AS/NZ.

Besides which, the company also takes on customised turnkey projects such as interior decoration and furnishing work.

Hasro’s outdoor furniture and products are available in regular as well as designer styles. These include pergola-style benches, L-shape benches, dining sets, foldable table-and-bench sets, two-seater swings, garden benches as well as planter benches with lattice-work backstand. As with most of its products, Hasro’s outdoor furniture are made from durable tropical hardwoods.

Elaborating, Dato’ Hashim says: “We use mainly Balau and sometimes, depending on customers’ requests, we use Chengal and Merbau. Some of our overseas customers also request for our furniture in temperate timbers and we produce them in Pine and Oak as requested. But our local buyers prefer Balau, Chengal or Merbau. These are the three Malaysian species that are popular with our local customers who like these timbers for their grains, texture and durability.”
