National Forestry Council (NFC)
Established: 1972
Role: The NFC, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, serves as a federal-level coordinating body. It brings together representatives from:
- Ministry of Natural Resource and Environmental Sustainability (NRES)
- Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK)
- State Chief Ministers and Forestry Directors
Purpose
The NFC ensures the sustainable management and utilization of forest resources across Malaysia. Since 2010, its responsibilities have been consolidated under the National Land Council (NLC) for broader policy integration.
Federal-Level Responsibilities
Ministry of Natural Resource and Environmental Sustainability (NRES)
- Manages forestry and conservation plans.
- Conducts forestry research.
- Enforces laws, policies, and guidelines for natural resources.
Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK)
